Home Remedies for Swollen Legs


In order to control the pain and suffering brought on by swollen legs, we can adopt specific lifestyle changes and use natural therapies.  



1. Massage of the swollen leg


It has been discovered that massaging the swollen area with strong strokes upward toward the heart, without applying excessive pressure or producing discomfort, is beneficial. This keeps the fluid from collecting in the feet and helps to drain the excess fluid build-up by sending it towards the heart.


2. Epsom salt baths


Many people attest to the fact that taking an Epsom salt bath helps reduce leg swelling. Although the precise process is uncertain, it has been shown that bathing legs in water containing dissolved Epsom salt reduces edema by providing the skin with extra magnesium. It is inexpensive, simple to use, and almost risk-free because it is a substance that is widely available. Therefore, even doctors encourage using this hack.


3. Application of lepas


Some of the lepas, or Ayurvedic pastes, that we apply to our bodies, are used to treat swelling legs. Foot edema can be lessened by combining the herbs punarnava, ginger, and deodar (cedar) into a semisolid paste.  


4. Abhyanga treatment


This Ayurvedic treatment involves massaging the body with oil. This procedure involves using a decoction called dashamoola katha to minimize edema. 


5. Application of essential oils


To lessen swelling, apply essential oils such chamomile, peppermint, lavender, helichrysum, marjoram, and eucalyptus. To use it, add two to three drops to a hot water bath and soak your swollen legs in the water for ten minutes, or until the water cools down. Leg massages can also be performed with essential oils. The essential oil should be diluted with another oil, such as coconut oil, before being used for massage.


6. Ayurvedic herbs


Certain herbs used in Ayurveda medicine are used to reduce edema. Herbs like adraka (ginger), punarnava, and arjuna can be utilized as decoctions, powders, pastes, juices, and herbal wines in the amounts prescribed by an Ayurvedic doctor.
